Youth Education
Alianza Escolar Mentors
Develop a meaningful, productive relationship with an Hispanic student in middle school or high school. Throughout the school year, meet with your mentee one night/week, providing academic help and friendship, while serving as a positive adult role model. Mentors receive initial and on-going training, must be at least 21 years old, and are required to commit to participating in the program throughout one academic year.
Arroz con Leche Site Leaders/Assistants
Help foster a love for reading and writing in the participants of Arroz con Leche, an after-school reading & writing enrichment program for 3rd graders in select schools. Each week, read the kids a story focused on an aspect of Hispanic culture, facilitate a discussion about the story, and lead a creative and participatory activity. A detailed curriculum including all books and materials will be provided. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and must be available during daytime hours (generally one afternoon/week for 2 hours). Volunteers are asked to commit to participating in the program throughout one academic year.
Summer Camp Intern/Counselors
Help organize and run the Alianza Summer Camp. Plan and carry out activities with a group of 25 kids, ages 9-12. Past camp activities have included kayaking, rock-climbing, 6 Flags, trips to museums and nature centers, making recycled paper, and talent shows. Volunteer during the entire month-long day camp in July or as your schedule allows.

Adult Education
English as a Second Language (ESL) Assistants
Assist certified ESL instructors who teach adults to navigate everyday life in English. Incorporate creative and participatory teaching methods to make learning enjoyable and relevant.
Citizenship and Civics Course Instructors/Assistants
Introduce topics such as U.S. government and history, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and how the electoral process works to adults preparing to take the U.S. Citizenship Exam. Volunteers commit to assisting and teaching 1 night a week for at least 6 months.

Micro-Enterprise
HEP/NxLevel Class and Seminar Assistants
